Uninsured or underinsured? Regional coalition wants to help.
Members of the Greater Kansas City Cover the Uninsured Coalition — health care clinics, hospitals, insurance providers and others — invite you to join in observing the sixth annual “Cover the Uninsured Week” from April 27 to May 3. This national event draws attention to the millions of Americans — almost 200,000 in the metro area — who lack any kind of health care coverage.
The Mid-America Regional Council’s Regional Health Care Initiative worked with coalition members to launch a new Web site, www.kchealthresource.org, to help people who are uninsured or underinsured find health care. Visitors to the site can search by location or by clinic name, or use the advanced search function to find clinics that meet special needs, such as those that accept Medicare or Medicaid, or those that offer bilingual services. Search results for each clinic include a map, phone numbers, clinic hours, and services provided.
The information contained on the Web site is also available in booklet form — in both English and Spanish. To request copies of the booklet, contact MARC’s Regional Health Care Initiative staff at 816/474-4240.
